General Description:

Trontano, village at the entrance of the Vigezzo Valley, is a town of the National Park of Val Grande, set on a large terrace that opens onto the plain of the Toce. A land of stone, wine, the “Prunent”, and of bread, the “pansègla”, bread of rye flour. It is a concrete example where the “rural life of the mountain” has permeated the life of the valley for many centuries is still noticeable in the landscape and in the human environment.  From Trontano, where are the Graglia’s mills and where are the laboratories of educational environment of the CEA of Trontano del Formont, you can reach the Graglia’s mills, restored and still working.

The route:

From Trontano station you can reach the Center of Educational Environment (CEA) Formont in a few minutes going down along the road, nearby the sports field. From the CEA, go up the parish church of S. Maria, then along via P. Ferraris you reach the City Hall, going along and up  via Verdi. Just after the junction with via Viscardi and via Cocco, a track starts on the left among scattered houses, going through Ventriago and Cocco, until it crosses again the road that you follow until the end to continue on the track. Once you reach the road for Verigo, continue on a short stretch to take again the track a little further. Crossed the railroad tracks go down to the bridge on the stream Graglia, reaching “I Mulìt”, where are a series of old stone mills, today partly restored and transformed in an outdoor museum. From the mills an easy track leads to the old village of Verigo, surrounded by vineyards and cultivated fields. From here you can return by train or on foot along the road and up to the mills, then along the same track of the way forward.
