This event originated in remembrance of the historic battle of Novara fought in the Bicocca district on 23 March 1849, which radically changed the course of the Risorgimento, prompting the abdication of Carlo Alberto and the ascension to the throne of Vittorio Emanuele II, with major political changes for Piedmont.
For a number of historical, military and social reasons the Novara area was in the forefront of these events. Accordingly, in March and April every year the city organises a series of events focusing on its role as a key City of the Risorgimento.
The full programme of events includes initiatives centring on culture, music and theatre, food and wine, as well as various exhibitions – ceremonies to remember those killed in the battle, displays of regimental memorabilia, conferences, lectures and gourmet tours.
