The protected area known as the “Oasi della Bruschera” covers 400 hectares of land on the shore of Lake Maggiore near the burgh of Angera.
The Oasis is one of the last remaining examples of a wooded wetland in Lombardy, characterised by tracks through stands of high trees, black alder and white willow, and reedbeds. The flora includes rare species like the marsh violet and the white water lily.
Many water birds come here to nest and to winter, including mallard, moorhen, and kingfisher. A colony of cormorants has lived for some years on the Isolino Partegora.
