The Museum of Taps and their Technology in San Maurizio d’Opaglio recounts the history of the technological innovations that over the years have revolutionised personal hygiene, taking it from an elitist phenomenon to an everyday occurrence.
The Museum focuses on the history of the tap industry on Lake Orta, and in San Maurizio d’Opaglio in particular, as the centre of the sector. It also illustrates a variety of themes connected with drinking water and the use of water resources.
At the centre of the exhibition is the relationship between man and water, describing the development of tap technology from a historical perspective, from the earliest Roman prototypes found by archaeologists to the present day.
The exhibition also includes material relating to the companies that were started between 1860 and 1965, and which are still operative. The development of technology in the sector described, as well as the changes in managerial style that occurred over the years.
The Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
