The Statue of San Carlo, known as the "Sancarlone", towers over the city of Arona. This colossal monument was built during the 1600s and completed in 1698, based on a design by Giovan Battista Crespi, known as “Il Cerano.” It stands 35 meters tall and was the tallest statue in the world for two centuries.
You can climb inside the statue via a spiral staircase, which also allows you to admire its internal structure. From the top, visitors can look out through holes placed at the saint's eyes, nostrils, and ears.
